Peace in the Storm

As I'm writing this, there's a nice, peaceful on-and-off rainstorm. Katie is in her room, trying to decide whether to take an afternoon nap or not. She's been crying loudly for 30 minutes. I learned a month or so ago that she can go to sleep on her own. Sometimes it takes longer than other times, but if I try to rock her or hold her, sometimes it makes it worse. These moments remind me of when she was an infant, rocking her gently to sleep, and tiptoeing to her bassinet to set her in it oh so gently for a nap.

This week we will wrap up swim lessons (water babies, the class is called). It's been fun watching her grow more confident and even enjoy being in the water, at least until she gets too cold. Then she screams and wants to sit on the edge of the pool shivering and crying. But we are working on her skills now so we can make some fun memories later, hopefully in the middle of the day, on a warm, sunny day.

We spend the rest of our days with meals at regular intervals, times of play, and plenty of snuggles. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when she runs to me giggling and smiling, and falls into my lap in fun. I also love how independent she is, playing by herself and occasionally running up to me to hand me a toy or smile at me as she goes about her play. She likes her alone time, I think. A lot like her Daddy and me.

On the house building front, we have interviewed two potential builders and asked for bids. We are waiting to hear back from them, in a few weeks. We are also working to clear the area where the slab will go, in part so that the engineers can do soil tests in order to design our slab, and also to get a head start for the builders. Neal is meeting with an arborist today to discuss a plan for tree removal. There seems to be a lot of waiting around right now, but it will get busy soon!

I am so excited about being a Young Living wholesale member and distributor! I ordered 12-2 ml sample bottles, and have already given them all out filled with oils to help my friends in various areas of their lives. One friend has struggled with anxiety, and I gave her Valor, Srress Away, and Peace & Calming. I think that with regular use, they can help the whole family. I've also mailed off some En-R-Gee, my favorite oil at the moment. I ordered it in my June order, and it has helped me so much! I actually have energy to do housework, exercise, and don't even need a nap!

Moms, don't you hate those times when you are letting baby "cry it out" to nap, and then you go to check on them after 45 minutes to find they have a dirty diaper?! Even though I changed a dirty diaper before I put her down, she was dirty and upset again. Put Peace & Calming EO (essential oil) on her feet, and Frankincense on her teeth that are coming in. Praying for a nap this time!

If you are interested in learning more about Essential Oils, and would like to try some, please send me a message and let me know!  These oils are a great help for families especially.

Hope y'all have had a good week or so. 'Til next time.

Life These Days

We have so much going on in our lives right now! I've decided to start a new blog to wade through it all and maybe share some insights along the way.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I am married to Neal, a very laid back, "chill" and steady man. We have been married for five and a half years, and it's been a fun and learning experience. We have an almost 14-month old little girl, Katie, who adds so much joy, laughter, and sleeplessness to our lives. Being a parent is one of the biggest challenges I've met with, but it is so very rewarding! I resigned from my job as an engineer at TxDOT just over a year ago to stay home full-time with Katie. I loved being an engineer and solving challenging problems and using my math, physics, and other skills to create. I suppose since I like engineering, math, and physics, I am a bit nerdy, but I'm okay with that because Neal is an engineer too, and so we can be nerdy together. :-)

Let's see, things I like to do... I...well, I don't know where to start. These days, I enjoy working in the yard when I can. It gets so hot here in Texas in the summer, you have to plan to be outside in the morning and evening so you don't get heat stroke. The mosquitoes are bad here, too, which slows down the gardening a lot! I also love, love to read. I enjoy good mystery/thriller books. I enjoy the excitement, and it's kind of fun to peek into someone else's life. I love basketball. I wasn't great in high school, but it will always have a special place in my heart. I enjoy watching baseball, soccer, and basketball if the right teams are playing, but so many other things pull at my time I don't get too much. I'm also guilty of starting several hobbies and then quitting, so I've dabbled with a lot of different things.

Many of you who know me well know a lot of other things I enjoy, and they will come up in other posts I'm sure. This tired mommy (yes, it's only 8:30) got tired of thinking them up. ;-)

Anyway, one of the things I want to try to keep current with in this blog is family life with a toddler. She is at such a fun age now, and doing so many funny things daily, I think it's important to write them down for entertainment purposes and to remember later. We are also beginning the process of building our first home, which will also hopefully be our "forever" home, so I'd like to follow that process in the blog. I've also signed up as a distributor with Young Living Essential Oils, so I'd love to share how the oils are helping me, my family and friends.

Hope y'all enjoy this journey we are in!

Thanks for reading.
